Prep Schools
9-12th Grade & PG Years
Planning for prep school typically begins in middle school to enter as a freshman or during high school to transfer schools, repeat a year, or consider a PG year. The family and I develop a prep school list, activity resume, and an athletic profile. The student and I work together to prepare for the SSAT standardized test and work on the SAO (Standard Application Online). For the essays, we review each prompt, brainstorm topics, create a theme to frame each story, and structure an outline within the word counts. We practice interviewing, identify recommendations, and prepare for coach visits.
College and University
College Applications
Identifying all the pieces of the college application puzzle can begin in eighth grade or during the first years of high school. The family and I meet to wisely choose classes, summer programs, internships, and community service. Before junior year, we develop a college list, practice for standardized testing, and prepare for the ACT essay section. Before senior year, we work on the Common/Coalition Application, Supplemental applications, activity resume, and athletic profile. Essay work includes creating stories that highlight a theme and character traits. We develop an outline within limited word and character counts. We prepare for the campus visits, Admissions/alumni interviews, and coach contacts.
Graduate Schools
Masters, MBA, JD, MD,
Dental, Pharmacy, and PhD
Preparing for graduate school can start during the junior year of college or after working a couple years after graduation. The student and I meet to develop the resume and LinkedIn to be consistent with the application. We develop a grad school list that supports the intended major and identify academic mentors who are a fit for career objectives. The essay writing process includes discussing topics, creating a theme, and outlining the story to highlight college achievements, work reflections, and professional interests. The goal is to connect past experiences with future goals. We simulate mock interviews that include behavioral, professional, and interpersonal questions.
