How can Middlebury College be ranked 13 by one publication and then drop to 197 in another? There are two college ranking publications with completely different methodologies. The 2026 U.S. News and World and The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse both prioritize job outcomes as the largest criteria; however, each uses distinct definitions and weights in calculating job outcomes. As high school seniors apply to college, many are rethinking their college lists to focus on getting a job.
The reality is only eight percent of hiring managers believe that Gen Z job seekers (born 1997 through 2012) are ready for the workforce, according to 350 hiring managers surveyed by the job candidate assessment firm, Criteria, this October. . .
